The Labor Caucus met virtually on June 26th. We elected new officers and engaged two exciting speakers: Professor Gene Nichol and Diane Thomas-Holladay.
We are pleased to share our Zoom recordings of them.
Professor Gene Nichol
Our keynote, Professor Nichol, is a fearless fighter for progressive values. A participant in Moral Mondays, the UNC BOG shut down his Poverty Center to stop his work. Shortly after, the UNC law school launched the North Carolina Poverty Research Fund, which continues to provide a platform for Nichol. In 2018, he published “The Faces of Poverty in North Carolina: Stories from Our Invisible Citizens,” which moves beyond statistics to tell the stories of individuals struggling in poverty. In 2020 he released his latest book, “Indecent Assembly: The North Carolina Legislature’s Blueprint for the War on Democracy and Equality,” exposing the state’s all-white Republican legislative caucuses and their political agenda hostile to the poor, people of color, women, and LGBTQ+ people.
